LOCATION
Situated in a small sea town called "Scalea", Villa Brazzano lies among pine trees surrounded by olive
groves and palms. Scalea enjoys one of the most
beautiful parts of the Tyrrhenian Coast and it's dark volcanic sand, the clear Azure sea and it's natural sea caves
in the "Ajnella" area.
Scalea is one of the towns
that make the "Riviera dei Cedri", one of the few, if not
the only, area on earth where the "Cedro"
(lime) grows.
This
unusual fruit, that looks like a green enormous lemon is used to make a local popular liquor that takes
it's
same name.
Scalea was no doubt inhabited
even in prehistorical times, as the discoveries of the
Palaeolithic Period that were excavated in a cavern near the
"Talao Tower", show. This tower was built on the highest cliff
of a small island just in front of Scalea, for sentinels to guard the town from
invaders coming from sea.
"Scalea Vecchia"
(the "old town") placed on the heights still preserves
remains of ancient times such as the "Cimalonga Tower"
that is today an Antiquarium but at the time was a prison.
Legend has it that it's prisoners built a small tunnel ending on
the Torre Talao Island to escape, but once discovered was also
used as an escape tunnel to reach the island from land in case
of invasion.
