The island of Pantelleria is located 70 km from the African coast and 85 km from Sicily. Its surface is about 83 sq km and its maximum height is represented by 836 m. of the Big Mountain. It is the emerged part of a volcano that rises about 2000 meters over an oceanic crust thickness of about 20 km form the island, following the general trend of the tectonic rift that affects the channel of Sicily.

The Montagna Grande Natural Park is the green heart of the island, there are nearly 600 botanical entities.
