Amalfi Coast
Cilento National Park
Vesuvius Volcano
This is the land where the deep South of Italy truly begins. Campania
is the region that houses wonderful world wide known sceneries
like the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento and Capri but
is also doorway to other most beautiful locations of Southern Italy
like Calabria with it's wonderful rugged coast, Sicily and it's romantic
and historic towns like Agrigento and Taormina, and also just few
hours away from Apulia and it's characteristic Trulli Houses or Basilicata
with beautiful towns like Maratea.
Campania features a volcanic sea of the deepest
shade of blue lined with miles of dramatic coast and dotted with such
lovely islands that almost seem to be tiny, brightly coloured
jewels.
Sharp contrasts don't miss in this region going from the heat, noise and
urban sprawl of troubled Naples to the calming qualities of Sorrento,
from the romantic islands of Capri and Ischia to the undiscovered
coastline of Cilento.
One typicality of Campania will never miss throughout the whole region
and that's the warm welcoming as well as the calm qualities of it's
people.
Climate and Environment
The
mild climate, the enchanting countryside, the exuberance and
the fervid imagination of its people, for over twenty-five centuries
have made this region one of the most charming and sought after holiday
resorts in the world.
Throughout its history the Etruscans, Greeks, Romans, Normans, Angevins,
Spanish, French and Austrians arrived here in armies as conquerors,
only to become captured by the sweet intensity of its colours, perfumes,
flavours and songs of this happy land.

Other Regional Info
The
most famous regional speciality is of course the "Pizza",
the simple tomato and basil topped pizza that has become over the
years a world wide known dish and with which many are familiar. Many
have tried to imitate the original, but as Neapolitans say "It
is best eaten in its hometown: Naples".
Campania
is also very famous nationally for its buffalo mozzarella cheese,
used in so many classic Italian dishes, it is very similar to the
usual mozzarella cheese and can in fact be confused with it but the
"Mozzarella di Bufala" has a fuller and sweeter taste.
Naples and all the towns around the coast are also very well known for the
seafood dishes made with freshly caught fish along the
coastline of the bay of Naples; fresh clams to make a tasty "Spaghetti
alle Vongole".
As many of the Southern Italian regions Campania has it's own liquor
known world wide: as Calabria has it's "Cedro", Campania
has it's "Limoncello".
Both liquors are made in the same way, produced by the external part
of the fruit, they never miss in a house hold and are often pride
of the ladies of the house that make it with their own hands. Both
are best served ice-cold, Cedro is made with the fruit with the same
name and only grows in the "Riviera dei Cedri" in Calabria,
and Limoncello is made with freshly grown lemons.
