TORTORA - CALABRIA - SOUTH ITALY
Tortora, the first town one
encounters on the Riviera dei Cedri, on the Tyrrhenian coast, in Calabria,
is full of history, culture and tradition. Starting from the museum
Antiquarium of Palazzo Casapesenna, which holds proof of Tortora's
origins dating back to the medieval era; the old churches of the Annunziata
and of the Purgatorio, XII century, the most ancient one in town, shows
inside paintings representing scenes from the bible and keeps a superb
roman-style entrance door. The churches of San Francesco
d'Assisi and of San Pietro, which dates back to the XIV century, or the
magnificent watch-tower Torre Nave, rising on the main hill and
offers the great view of the town and the entire sea-line.

The town is made up of three
main parts: the marina, on the plain directly next to the sea, which offers
great beaches, shops, entertainment the
villa, a fabulous place in the center of town good walks while enjoying
delicious ice-creams and family days out; the old town, or Borgo Antico,
seven Km away from the coast; and fourteen fractions, full of incredible
natural areas like woods and rivers which extends the territory of Tortora
in the National Park Parco del
Pollino.
